A psychiatrist, a pharmacist and 13 others were charged today in a federal investigation of an illegal network selling narcotics in and around Rockland County.
Ten of those charged are accused of distributing large quantities of prescription pain medications.
“Rockland County has seen a startling rise in the use and abuse of highly addictive prescription medications,” said Rockland County District Attorney Thomas Zugibe. “It is our hope that through this effort and other similar operations, we can reduce the illicit use of potent drugs like oxycodone and save lives.”
Those charged include pharmacist Srinath Thoompally, who is accused of using his 200 E. Eckerson Road business — VVT Pharmacy — in western New City to fill bogus prescriptions. Also charged is medical doctor Aristide Esser, a psychiatrist practicing in Rockland County, who is accused of issuing a bogus prescription.
