Rockland Volunteer Firefighters Hold 101st Annual Convention

The 101st Annual Convention Rockland County Volunteer Firemen’s Association (RCVFA) on Friday, Sept. 6 will include officer elections, a memorial service and award presentations.

The slate of candidates for RCVFA officer posts includes incumbents Paul Schlegel of the Stony Point Fire Department for association president; John Intrieri of the West Haverstraw Fire Department for first vice president; Nick Gatti of the Piermont Fire Department for second vice president; John Kryger of the West Haverstraw Fire Department for corresponding secretary; Bruce McClintock of the Suffern Fire Department for recording secretary; Robert Capello  of the Spring Valley Fire Department for financial secretary and Mike Kramar  of the Hillcrest Fire Department for  treasurer.

 A memorial service will be held for all association members who have died since the last convention. The Firefighter of the Year and the Unit Citation awards will be presented. Life membership and longevity certificates will be distributed to 25 and 50-year association members respectively. The Rockland County Fire Instructors’ Association will present two Lt. Andrew Fredericks Memorial scholarships.

New City Fire Engine Co. #1 is hosting the convention, which starts at 7:45 p.m. on Friday at the Rockland Fire Training Center at 35 Firemen’s Memorial Drive in Pomona. Ramapo.  The weekend’s events continue with the convention parade on Saturday that will also celebrate the New City fire department’s 125th year anniversary of service.

The parade steps off at 2 p.m. on Little Tor Road and heads north to Collyer Ave to South Main Street and north on South Main Street to New Hempstead Road. The parade will break up behind the county court house and is best viewed along South Main Street.
