Rockland's Emergency Dispatch Center Opening In Pomona
The new Sheriff’s Communications Emergency Dispatch Center opens Friday at the Rockland County Training Center in Pomona. The $7.9 million, 9,000 square foot Sheriff’s Communications Center is the public safety answering point (PSAP) for all wireless 911 calls received within Rockland. It will also operate as the emergency dispatch center for the county’s 26 volunteer Fire Departments.
County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef, Sheriff Louis Falco, Director of Fire and Emergency Services Gordon Wren, Jr., Legislative Chairwoman Harriet Cornell and legislators will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. in the Fire Training Center’s auditorium at 35 Firemen’s Memorial Drive.
The Communications Center has 15 emergency dispatch stations, two of which were designed to function as a backup for the town and village police departments in case they cannot use their headquarters. It will also serve as the hub for the county’s interoperable radio system serving the police, fire and EMS first responders and provide them with a dedicated county channel in an emergency. The $30 million interoperable system has been in development for about five years and utilizes 10 communication towers throughout the county.
