Thief Steals Collection Jar for Spring Valley Toddler Killed by Truck: Lohud.com

Clearly the community near Lottie Gardens was being generous in memory of the little boy killed there July 11—the collection jar at the deli on Rose Avenue was sufficiently full to attract a thief. It was stolen Monday, The Journal News reports.

The deli had been fundraising to help defray Dominic Mero's funeral and other expenses.

Spring Valley police told reporter Steve Lieberman that $300 had been collected.

The 20-month-old ran out into the path of a pick-up truck backing up in the parking lot of the Spring Valley apartment complex the morning of July 11.

Police are investigating the accident.
