Update 10:06 a.m. O&R reports the tractor-trailer driver swerved to avoid being hit by a falling tree which had knocked down poles and wires. Five customers nearest the accident scene are still without power. Service is expected to be restored to them by mid afternoon.
Clarkstown Police report a tractor-trailer traveling on Route 9W hit several poles and a tree at 8:30 a.m. today. The one-vehicle accident knocked out power to 950 Orange & Rockland customers. They were without service for less than an hour according to O&R. They had power restored about 9:15 a.m.
Police report there were no injuries in the accident, which has closed Route 9W between Routes 303 and 304 in Congers. Police expect the highway to remain closed for about two hours.
