Woman Charged in $18,000 Welfare Fraud
D.A.: Medicaid, food stamp applications falsified.
A woman who falsely reported that she was unemployed has been charged with grand larceny for illegally obtaining public assistance benefits totalling more than $18,000, according to Rockland County District Attorney Thomas Zugibe.
Tanya Lindsey, 40, of 55 Ewing Ave., Spring Valley, is accused of falsifying applications submitted to the Rockland County Department of Social Services to obtain welfare benefits including food stamps and Medicaid. Zugibe said a probe by the Rockland County Special Investigations Unit and Social Services found that although Lindsey reported she was unemployed she actually held jobs in Orangeburg and New York City.
She is accused of fraudulently obtaining the benefits from September 2009 to May 2001. Lindsey was arrested and arraigned in Ramapo Town Court and released pending a Feb. 5 hearing.

Officials said Lindsey has previously been convicted on charges of petty larceny and issuing bad checks. Also, she faces a warrant in connection with a criminal cae in the Town of Clarkstown for which she is on probation.
