Clarkstown Supervisor Alexander Gromack, issued Local Emergency Order 1-2012 at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Monday restricting vehicular traffic on town roads to essential emergency vehicles and personnel. The Emergency Order also directs local businesses, except for gas stations and motels, to close from 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 29 until 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 30 unless the order is lifted before that time.
The order is intended to protect the lives and property of residents and to allow emergency personnel to efficiently respond to emergencies.
The Town issued a State of Emergency effective at 6 p.m. on Sunday. Under a State of Emergency, Gromack can issue emergency orders. Clarkstown's State of Emergency will remain in effect until 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2 unless it is removed prior to that time.
A State of Emergency was also issued for Rockland County at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 28 in advance of Hurricane Sandy's arrival.
