Clarkstown has been looking into consolidating mechanics Town Garage department for some time now and at Tuesday night’s town board meeting, they set a public hearing to get the ball rolling.
The public hearing was set for June 19 to discuss a proposed local law that would allow this consolidation. The law would transfer the function of the Highway Department mechanics and consolidate all town mechanics under the Town Garage Department.
This consolidation will streamline vehicle maintenance and services.
Under the Town Garage Department, the mechanics would repair service and maintain town vehicles and equipment used by the Highway department, all police vehicles, municipal transportation vehicles and other town vehicles.
The local law will also not usurp or diminish Highway Superintendent Wayne Ballard’s duties or authority, according to the town.
