County Executive Candidate Files To Get Back On Ballot

Vladimir Leon’s campaign filed an Order to Show Cause in State Supreme Court on Tuesday in an effort to get back on the Democratic ballot for Rockland County executive. Leon is asking for a stay on the county Board of Elections’ decision to invalidate his petitions and remove his name from the ballot for the September 10 primary. A hearing has been scheduled for next Thursday, August 1 at 9:30 a.m.

The election commissioners removed Leon’s petitions as a result of specific objections filed to them.  Commissioner Louis Babcock explained earlier this week that the number of signatures on each page was not provided in the witness box and the pages were not numbered.

“Basically, he didn’t fill out the paperwork correctly,” said Babcock.

Leon claimed in his Order to Show Cause that the specific objection had flaws including absence of service, unsubstantiated allegations, as well as violation of specific objection and administrative clauses.

Leon’s statement noted that he and his campaign are also continuing to petition for a new independent line, Organizing Rockland, which will focus on the county tax and economic development issues.

News of the Board of Elections' decision was released on the same day one of Leon's Democratic opponents, Suffern Mayor Dagan Lacorte, received the endorsement of State Senator David Carlucci.
