Due to the ongoing high winds and heavy rain related to Hurricane Sandy, County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef issued a local emergency order restricting non-essential vehicles throughout Rockland County between the hours of 6 p.m. Monday, and 8 a.m. Tuesday
“It is critical that the roads are clear for emergency personnel to respond to emergencies resulting from the hurricane,” said Vanderhoef, “We urge residents to remain safely at their location during what is anticipated to be the most dangerous part of the storm.”
As part of the State of Emergency declared Sunday, Oct. 28 at 6 p.m., Vanderhoef has the ability to close roads to all non-essential personnel when it is determined that very hazardous driving conditions exist and can threaten life and or property. Travel is limited to medical, fire, law enforcement and emergency service personnel, and government officers.
Additionally, people providing services in connection with the emergency, and any person, on their way to or from performing an immediately essential act associated with the preservation of life and property.
