Rockland County Hosts "Making Homes Affordable" Summit

Rockland County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef will
kick-off National Fair Housing Month in the county by hosting a Fair Housing Summit on Tuesday, April 24 under the auspices of the Rockland County Human Rights Commission. The Hon. Bryan Greene, Deputy General Assistant Secretary at HUD will present an overview of a new program put forward by the Obama administration called "Making Homes Affordable," which many county residents can take advantage of to save their homes and/or refinance their existing home loans at new lower rates.

The conference will also serve as an opportunity for senior HUD officials to clarify a new set of rules it issued banning housing discrimination against LGBT individuals. The Chief of HUD’s New York Field Office will be at the housing summit to explain these new rules and how they protect LGBT individuals.

Other topics to be discussed include:
·       “HOMELESSNESS AMONG OUR VETERANS”
·       “HOMES FOR THE HEROES”
·       “INVISIBLE POCKETS OF HOUSING”
