U.S. Sen. Gillibrand To Visit West Point, Cadets

West Point, NY – U .S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and Holly Petraeus, Director of the Office of Servicemembers Affairs at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, will visit West Point on Friday, March 2 at 12:45 PM. The officials will meet with cadets and discuss a variety of issues concerning financial literacy, consumer protection, and policies designed to support armed services personnel and their families.

Gillibrand was appointed to the Senate Armed Services Committee in January 2011. Prior to becoming a U.S. Senator, she served on the House Armed Services Committee as Representative for New York's 20th Congressional District from 2007 – 2009. Senator Gillibrand is committed to continuing to fight for our men and women in uniform.

Petraeus heads the Office of Servicemember Affairs of the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau which Senator Gillibrand helped to establish after the financial crisis to protect Americans against financial abuses. Petraeus's office provides financial education to military families, monitors complaints about scams and fraudulent practices, and coordinates federal and state efforts to protect military families' finances.  Previously, Petraeus served for six years as the director of the Better Business Bureaus' Military Line, providing consumer education and advocacy for servicemembers and their families.  She has been married for 37 years to David Petraeus, the four-star general who currently directs the Central Intelligence Agency.
