Rockland County will officially begin a state of emergency at 6 p.m.
County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef signed the order this afternoon at the Rockland County Fire Training Center, where he other county officials and local officials met to review disaster plans with the approach of Hurricane Irene.
Vanderhoef said the order gives law enforcement officials authority to take emergency measures to ensure public safety during the storm, which is expected to hit our arear on Sunday.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Thursday issued an order declaring a state of emergency in New York.
Vanderhoef and other Rockland officials this afternoon urged county residents to spend today and tomorrow getting ready for the storm by stocking up on supplies and safeguarding their homes by putting away loose items.
