Legislative Committee Approved DeGroat As Finance Commissioner

The legislature's Budget & Finance Committee approved the appointment of Acting Commissioer of Finance and Acting Budget Director Stephen DeGroat as commissioner of finance and budget director. A vote by the full legislature will make it official.

 

Stephen DeGroat was not at the Legislative Budget & Finance Committee meeting on Tuesday night to hear the unanimous vote to change his title from Rockland County's acting commissioner of finance and acting budget director to commissioner of finance and budget director. The resolution was an addendum to the committee's agenda and had not been previously published.

was named as acting commissioner of finance and acting budget director in March 2011. As an acting department head, that appointment was limited to six months. This past March, the legislature extended his term for a second time. Tuesday night, the committee confirmed the resolution they received from Rockland County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef and the attending seven members voted to make DeGroat's title permanent.

Deputy Budget Director Steven Grogan, who attended the meeting, said it would be welcome news for DeGroat. Grogan said he was unaware of the resolution until he saw the added list of agenda items. The full legislature must vote on the appointment. It meets next on Tuesday, Sept. 4.
