Legislators Will Be Sworn In, Legislative Leaders Selected

Rockland County Legislature holds 2012 organizational meeting

 

All 17 members of the Rockland County Legislature will be sworn in during Wednesday's organizational meeting  at 7 p.m. Four new members will be among them:

  • , republican from Bardonia, will represent District 9
  • , democrat from Nyack, will represent District 17
  • , democrat from Nanuet, will represent District 14
  • Aron Wieder, democrat from Spring Valley, will represent District 13

The legislature’s chairperson and vice-chairperson will be selected.  Legislator Harriet D. Cornell served as chairwoman of the legislature in 2011 and Alden Wolf held the post of vice-chairman. Cornell (D-West Nyack) has been chairwomansince 2005.

The majority leader will be selected. Only members of the majority party are eligible to vote. The minority leader will be elected and just minority party members can vote. In 2011, the majority leader was Michael M. Grant and the minority leader was , republican from Congers representing District 11.  The clerk to the legislature will be appointed along with the deputy clerk.

The organizational meeting will take place in the county office building at 11 New Hempstead Road in New City.
