Rockland County is sponsoring a blood drive on Wednesday, Dec. 28 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The drive will take place at Building A in the Robert Yeager Health Center. Donors will receive two tickets for a Mets game at CITI Field during the spring of 2012.
The New York Blood Center (NYBC), urges people to set aside some time to donate life-saving blood. NYBC serves more than 20 million people in the Hudson Valley, New York City, Long Island and New Jersey.
"Think about all the people in your life who've been in a car accident, or had surgery, or are dealing with cancer," said NYBC Chief Medical Officer Beth Shaz, MD. “They probably got a blood transfusion. Especially at this busy time of year, we need to make sure that blood is always available for whomever needs it."
Dr. Shaz noted the blood supply needs constant replenishment because it has a shelf life of as little as five days, and that Type O-negative donors are especially prized because their blood can be transfused into anyone.
