New City And Valley Cottage Libraries Receive State Grants

$100,000 provided for renovations.

The New City Free Library and the Valley Cottage Free Library will receive $110,000 in public library construction grant funding. The New City Library will receive $67,000 and the Valley Cottage Library will receive $43,000. The grants will allow them to renovate and update their facilities.  

In making the announcement, Assemblyman Kenneth Zebrowski (D-New City said, “Our libraries are vital pieces of our community. They provide a positive outlet for our children to learn and be creative and they provide invaluable resources like computers and job training for members of our community who may not otherwise have the access they need.”   

The New City Library's funds will be used for renovations to the audio/visual area so the public can use all materials. Its collections will merchandised for increased effectiveness. The Valley Cottage Library will will use its award to increase greater energy conservation and reduce costs by updating parking lot lighting with energy efficient LED fixtures and replacing a 30-year-old boiler.

“It’s imperative that we continue to support our libraries,” Zebrowski said. “That’s why I supported this measure in last year’s budget and will remain committed to protecting library funding in the future.”
