New bus fares and changes to some routes take effect today on Transport of Rockland and Tappan ZEExpress buses, according to the Rockland County Department of Public Transportation.
Here are the changes:
— TOR (Transport of Rockland) cash fare is $2 and exact change will be appreciated. Transfers to a second bus will cost 50¢. Discounted fares for senior citizens and people with disabilities will be 75¢, with a transfer cost of 25¢. The SuperSaver ticket fare for TOR will now be just one ticket; however, transfers are no longer free with SuperSaver tickets. SuperSaver tickets offer a volume-discounted fare equal to just $1.10 per ride on TOR. SuperSaver tickets are sold in strips of 10 tickets for $11.
— TZx (TAPPAN ZEExpress) cash fare is $3 and exact change will be appreciated. Transfers to a second bus will cost 50¢. Discounted fares for senior citizens and people wit disabilities will be $1.00, with a transfer cost of 25¢. The SuperSaver ticket fare for TZx will now be just two tickets; however, transfers are no longer free with SuperSaver tickets. SuperSaver tickets offer a volume-discounted fare equal to just $2.20 per ride on TZx. SuperSaver tickets are sold in strips of 10 tickets for $11.00. TZx buses connect Rockland with Metro-North Railroad stations and other Westchester destinations in Tarrytown and White Plains.
— TRIPS paratransit cash fare is $2 and exact change will be appreciated. TRIPS Tickets will be sold in books of 10 tickets for $12.00 and offer a volume-discounted fare equal to just $1.20 per ride (one ticket per ride). TRIPS Tickets can be purchased directly from the TRIPS bus drivers or at the TRIPS office. TRIPS passengers traveling under ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) regulations will pay $4.00 per ride. TRIPS eligibility is for pre-registered residents with disabilities or who are aged 60 or over. In each of these cases, TRIPS service is reserved for individuals who find it difficult or impossible to use fixed-route bus service.
— Existing SuperSaver tickets will be accepted on TOR and TZx buses through Sunday, June 5. After that date, existing SuperSaver tickets will no longer be valid. However, full strips of the discontinued tickets may be exchanged at the Department of Public Transportation at the Dr. Robert L. Yeager Health Center, Building T, for a cost of $2.
— Some TOR service changes will also take effect today. Saturday service on TOR Loops #1 and #2 will be discontinued and several late night trips (Monday - Friday) on TOR #59 will be shortened or discontinued due to low ridership. TOR #91 “Direct” trips (Monday - Saturday) between Haverstraw and Palisades Center will be eliminated, but the local TOR #91 route will still serve all stops. TOR #97 service will also be adjusted with minor alterations to the schedule.
