One Change To Clarkstown Town Code Approved

The Clarkstown Town Board approved updates to one chapter of the town code at its meeting last week. Following a public hearing that had been continued from June, the board voted to approve a local law amending town code Chapter 290-3 that deals with definitions of lot coverage and building coverage. Lot coverage was modified to include all impervious surfaces and building coverage was revised to include all structures.

At the July 2 meeting, the board voted to continue the second public hearing, which concerned changes to 15 chapters of the code and deletion of six others. The public hearing will resume at the August 20 meeting.  One provision of the proposed local law would allow restaurants that are freestanding or in open malls to have one sign on each exterior wall of the building.

The code chapters that be amended cover various topics such as alcoholic beverages, parental responsibility, shopping center parking areas, storm water management and tree preservation. Those proposed for deletion deal with sanitary landfills, shopping carts, special permit and taxicabs.
