Political Hopefuls Submitting Petitions

The Rockland County Board of Elections has received a steady stream of petitions from those seeking to run for elected office. The timeframe for petitions from municipal and county hopefuls began Monday and ends Thursday at the close of business.

As of Wednesday morning, the races attracting the most prospects, who have submitted already petitions, are centered in the Village of Spring Valley. Just one countywide candidate has handed in his paperwork.

Paul Piperato of Thiells is seeking re-election as Rockland County Clerk on the Democratic line.

Newcomers Stephen Peters of Nanuet and Peter Eckhart of Congers handed in their petitions for Clarkstown Superintendent of Highways on the Conservative and Independence lines respectively.

In the race for Orangetown Supervisor, incumbent Andrew Stewart of Nyack and Walter Wettje of Pearl River submitted petitions. Stewart is seeking the Democratic line and Wettje the Conservative nod. Four hopefuls for Orangetown Town Council, Daniel Salmon of Tappan, Annmarie Uhl of Blauvelt, Tom Diviny of Blauvelt and Denis Troy of Pearl River handed in their petitions.  Incumbents Diviny and Troy collected signatures for the Conservative line while Salmon and Uhl went for the Democratic place on the ballot.

Democratic and Conservative petitions were filed by Charlotte Madigan of Pearl River who is seeking re-election as Orangetown Town Clerk. Other incumbents, Richard Finning of Orangeburg and James Dean of Pearl River handed in their paperwork for Orangetown Town Justice and Orangetown Superintendent of Highways respectively both on the Conservative line.

In the Village of Nyack, incumbents Mayor Jennifer White and village trustees Douglas Foster and Marie Lorenzini are seeking the Democratic position on the ballot. 

Four candidates submitted petitions in the mayor’s race in the Village of Spring Valley including the current office holder Noramie Jasmin.  Three of the hopefuls are seeking the Democratic line Jasmin and current village trustees Joseph Gross of Spring Valley and Demeza Delhomme of Monsey.  Jasmin is currently facing public corruption charges. Daniel Friedman of Monsey handed in petitions for the Conservative and Independence lines.

The race drawing the largest number of contenders is Spring Valley trustee with nine including one from outside the county. Jacque Charlot’s Democratic petition lists his residence as Highland Mills. The others live in Spring Valley – Aaron Morse, Asher Grossman, Sherry McGill, Elizette Reyes-Rivera, Ebony Thompson and Schneider Laurent. Chrispin Eugene of Monsey submitted a petition for the Democratic line and Laurent handed one in for the Independence line also. Victor Mandel of Spring Valley submitted a petition for the Independence line.
