Environmental service internships are open for the fall

Rockland County AmeriCorps (RCA) is looking for individuals who are at least 17 years old for environmental service internships this fall. It is a program of the Rockland County Youth Bureau.

RCA members who provide 300 hours of service between September and December 31, receive a $2,000 living stipend delivered in bi-weekly paychecks. At the completion of the 300 hours, members receive an additional $1,132 educational award, which can be used towards college tuition or an existing qualified student loan or  other college expenses. AmeriCorps members 55 and older can transfer their educational award to a child, grandchild or foster child.

AmeriCorps members are required to serve from September to December of 2012 at various environmentally based programs of municipalities and non-profits within Rockland. They will work 25 to 40 hours per week depending on the  placement. At host sites, members typically have had the responsiblity to educate the public about ecological conservation and environmental health issues, conduct field research, build and maintain nature trails, teach environmental education, worked on farms, patrol streams, facilitate clean ups, implement recycling programs and assist administratively.
