A effort to upgrade the railroad crossing on Lake Road in downtown Congers will shut the busy road to traffic for a day starting at 8 a.m. on Monday.
Traffic is schedule to be closed in both directions on Lake Road for the work along the CSX freight line. Detour signs are being posted to alert motorists to the closing.
Kings Highway, Gilchrest Road and Route 303 are alternate routes through the area.
The project is contingent on weather conditions and their is no set time for when Lake Road will be re-opened in Congers, although the work is expected to be completed in the late afternoon. The crossing is at grade-level with automatic gates that close as trains pass through on the West Shore Line.
Rockland Coaches Inc. says it will be rerouteing the 9/9A/9AT bus to New City using Route 303 north to Route 9W north to Route 304 south on the northbound trips and the reverse on the southbound. This should not affect bus times but will affect anyone on Lake road between New City and Congers.
