RCC Budget And Staff Contracts Up For Votes

The Rockland County Legislature will act Tuesday night on the Rockland County Community College (RCC) budget for the 2013-2014 school year and contracts with two of its unions. 

RCC’s budget for the coming academic year totals $67,566,782 including a $16,375,567 contribution from the county.  The county’s share remains the same as what it paid last year.  

Legislators will vote on ratifying Memorandums of Agreement between RCC, the county and the RCC Adjunct Faculty Association Local 4896 and RCC Federation of Teachers Local 1871.  The adjunct faculty agreement covers September 1, 2102 through August 31, 2014 and the Federation of Teachers accord runs from September 1, 2012 to August 31, 2016.

They will set a date for a public hearing on a proposed local law to prevent former county employees who retire early with additional compensation or leave their job with incentives from returning as a county employee, consultant or outside contractor. Legislator Alden Wolfe is the sponsor of the Rockland County Public Employment Abuse Prevention Act. 

Proposed contracts extending three public bus services in the county from July 1st through September 30th will be voted upon. The $148,043 contract with Hudson Transit Corp continues its partial operation of Transport of Rockland’s (TOR) Route 93 service. The $1,685,809 contract with Hudson Transit Corp. is for the operation of the TappanZeexpress. Under the $5,706,306 agreement, Rockland Transit Corp. will maintain TOR Routes 59, 91, 92, 93, 94, 95, 97 and Loop 1, 2 and 3.

Legislators will vote on accepting $84,000 from the New York State Division of Homeland Security to upgrade the robotic equipment used by the Sheriff’s Department’s Bomb Disposal Unit.
