Rockland Democratic Unity Rally Brings County, Town Officials

A Unity Rally for David Fried, the Democratic candidate for Rockland County executive, drew about 30 officials from the party along with elected officials from various levels of government on Monday evening. Earlier in the day, former candidate Ilan Schoenberger conceded the primary race to Fried.

“We are uniting as a party,” said Rockland County Democratic Committee Chair Kristen Stavisky. “Ilan Schoenberger has endorsed David Fried for county executive. He could not be here tonight but we met earlier and he will help David and this party any way he can. David, we are looking forward to a coordinated campaign and taking back the county executive seat.”

Fried said he appreciated Schoenberger’s support and thanked the other candidates who had participated in the Democratic primary for county executive. After the rally, Fried said he had not hear from the other candidates, Dagan Lacorte and Vladimir Leon, but hoped to since he thought both had ideas worth discussing.

Fried said taking back the county executive seat from the Republican Party was essential to get Rockland on the path to an improved financial future.

“In the general election I look forward to a substantive policy based debate,” said Fried, a former Spring Valley justice and county legislator.

He said the county needs real answers and real solutions to its $125 million deficit and lowest in the state credit rating. Fried said during the primary campaign he learned people love the county but are concerned about its future.

Fried’s opponent in November is Republican Ed Day, who also has the Preserve Rockland line. Day is a county legislator.
