Rockland’s Hospitals Commissioner Placed On Leave

Rockland County’s Department of Hospitals Commissioner Richard Maloney has been placed on administrative leave.  Ron Levine, spokesman for the county executive’s office confirmed that Maloney is on administrative leave pending resolution of an unspecified personnel matter. Levine said Maloney was put on leave on Friday, June 21.

Deputy Commissioner Donna Pauldine, who is also the Patient Services Administrator, is handling the commissioner’s responsibilities. The department operates Summit Park Hospital and Summit Park Nursing Care Center. 

“The hospital is performing all the services it always performs,” said Levine, who added there is on impact on patients or services.

He could not provide a timeframe for when the matter might be resolved and stated that Maloney is still the commissioner.

“Nothing officially has happened to that title right now,” said Levine.

Maloney has worked for the county in various capacities and joined the hospitals department in September 2007.  Pauldine has also worked in that department for many years. 

The hospital has been losing money for years and has contributed to the county's deficit.
