Schoenberger Gains Endorsements For County Executive Race

Rockland County Legislator and county executive hopeful Ilan Schoenberger received several endorsements on Sunday at the official opening of his campaign headquarters in New City.

More than 75 community leaders, elected officials, and residents attended the event and heard Rockland Sheriff Lou Falco, Clarkstown Supervisor Alex Gromack and Larry Weissman on behalf of the county Working Families throw their support behind Schoenberger. According to his campaign staff, Rockland’s Independence Party has also endorsed Schoenberger with a formal announcement expected soon.

Schoenberger, who is one of four Democrats in the race, said, “We face several big challenges coming up in Rockland County, the biggest one, of course, is the financial situation and deficit. I introduced a law that would require Rockland County to allocate at least $10 million per year, starting with our budget in 2014, towards deficit reduction.”

Falco said he backed Schoenberger because he listens and follows through.

Ilan's slogan is Ready to Lead on Day One. It could also be Actions Speak Louder than Words. When you go to Ilan, he listens,” he said. “Ilan always steps up and does the right thing.”

Gromack said the Ramapo resident understands county and local government and wants to build partnerships with business, environmental groups and municipal governments.

Ilan Schoenberger knows all our five towns, he knows all the villages and knows Rockland county government,” said Gromack. “I am yearning to have a County Executive that we can partner with, dealing with finances, dealing with drainage, talking about shared services. Ilan is a technician of County Government.”

Weissman noted that Schoenberger has been associated with the Working Families Party for a decade.

“We know that he's for the little man, he's for labor,” said Weissman, a Working Families Party board member. “That's why he's getting our line, that's why we're supporting him.”

Ramapo Town Councilmen Pat Withers and Daniel Friedman also endorsed Schoenberger.

The other Democrats in the race are former Spring Valley Justice David Fried, Suffern Mayor Dagan Lacorte and Vladimir Leon. Legislator Ed Day is the only Republican in the county executive’s race. The general primary will be held on September 10 and the general election on November 5.
