Senator Carlucci Supports Lacorte For County Executive

State Senator David Carlucci endorsed Dagan Lacorte in the race for Rockland County executive.  The two Democrats announced the endorsement in front of the Rockland County Courthouse at midday Monday. Carlucci praised the Suffern mayor as being the type of leader who can deal effectively with the county’s fiscal problems and fight the status quo. Carlucci noted that bond rating agencies labeled the county as dysfunctional and that its leadership has overestimated revenues for years.

“I think Mayor Lacorte has done an outstanding job at keeping taxes low in Suffern while attracting and investing in important services,” said Carlucci.

Lacorte said he plans to be a progressive independent leader for Rockland.

“As county executive I will continue to stand up for the people of Rockland County against special interests,” he said.

Lacorte said the senator’s endorsement was a huge boost for his candidacy and Carlucci said he would take an active role in the campaign.

“I need a need in New City, in the county executive’s office that’s going to work with me in Albany so that we can deliver real results for Rockland,” said Carlucci.

He also spoke at length about the importance of the upcoming September 10 primary. Carlucci noted New York State has one of the lowest voter turnouts in the country and less than 10 percent of those eligible to vote in Rockland will cast ballots in the primary. He urged people to take an interest in the county executive race, learn about the issues and get to know the candidates.

“We need everyone to come out on September 10 to make sure that we move Rockland County in a new direction,” said Carlucci.

A total of four Democratic hopefuls for county executive were expected to run in September but the Board of Elections declared Vladimir Leon’s petitions as defective because they were not filled out properly. Leon was not immediately available for comment. The remaining Democratic candidates are County Legislator Ilan Schoenberger and former Spring Valley Justice David Fried. County Legislator Ed Day is the only Republican seeking the post.
