South Main Street Revitalization Work Possibly Finished For The Year

Construction of municipal parking lot at corner of Maple Ave and First Street

The replacement of sewer mains and lines along between Third Street and Collyer Avenue has been completed and although drainage work was next on the agenda, that is likely to wait until early 2012.

Clarkstown Public Works Administrator Ed Lettre said the contractor working on the final phase of the South Main Street revitalization would have to stop by November 15.

“They may not start actual work on the road this year,” he said.

A municipal or shoppers parking lot is under construction. That will provide approximately 20 more spaces.  Lettre said the town purchased two houses and demolished them in order to build the parking lot.

Meanwhile work also continues on Congers Road between Route 304 and South Main Street.  Utility work remains to be finished.  Lettre is optimistic the road will be striped and open for two-way traffic on November 15.
