Clarkstown Declares State of Emergency

Supervisor Alexander J. Gromack declared a State of Emergency in the Town of Clarkstown effective 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 28 due to the effects of Hurricane Sandy. The county declared a State of Emergency effective at the same time. The Clarkstown State of Emergency gives the supervisor additional powers to effectively respond to any emergencies that are caused by the storm. No emergency orders have been issued as of yet.

The town’s Emergency Operation Center (EOC) is located at the Clarkstown Police Department. It opened at 8 a.m. and will remain open throughout the emergency. Many town departments and other agencies assigned are represented at the Emergency Operation Center:

All Town Offices are open today except Justice Court which will be closed Monday, October 29th and Tuesday, October 30th.  Justice Court will send out notices to re-schedule all court cases that were scheduled for those dates.  All Recreation programs, including senior club meetings, are cancelled for Monday, October 29th and Tuesday, October 30th.  Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) and Architect and Landscape Commission (ALC) meetings are cancelled for Monday evening, October 29th.  Mini-trans service will cease today at 2:30pm.

If there are prolonged power outages the Town will be opening reception centers at Congers Community Center, Street Community Center, Pascack Community Center or Palisades Mall Community Room.  The town will keep residents informed if they do become open.
