Vanderhoef Plans To Stay In Office For Full Term

The county executive denied rumors he will resign early.

While C. Scott Vanderhoef already announced he will not seek reelection next year, the current Rockland County executive won’t be going anywhere prior to his term ending.

Rumors in the county had started circulating that Vanderhoef would resign before his terms ends in December 2013, but he said Friday afternoon those rumors aren’t true.

“I’m planning at this point to carry out my term,” Vanderhoef said.

He added he’s not sure where the rumors are coming from.

“I don’t have any intentions or no plans to go anywhere,” he said.

Vanderhoef is currently in his 19th year as the county executive. This week, current Rockland County Legislators Ilan Schoenberger and Ed Day announced they will both run for the open county executive position.

We are so lucky he is not leaving. Scott Vanferhoff has been one of the best county executives in the history of county executives. When things were down and we needed money he raised our taxes to help save us. When things continued to go downhill he raised our taxes and saved us again. Then when things really looked bad he raised our taxes and saved us one more time. This guy is amazing. And if you work for him it's even better. No matter how bad things are with the economy or how high taxes are, you get raises. I remember one election he waiting till after he won to give out raises but he did give them out. I just wish he ran for another term. I hope whoever runs is as good as Scott. It will take a giant to fill his shoes.

Okay. Maybe he can undo some of the financial mess before he steps down. I would think that the man would want to have some sort of positive legacy.

Mr Vanderhoef you cannot leave until the Rockland Transportation contract is done. Mmmmm.....but wait that bid started in 2010, forget it, we still have 2 more years to go at this rate...

If he really cared don't you think he would have shown it already? He has showered the good taxpayers of Rockland with more taxes as his legacy.

So so true. Just when you don't think he can do any more damage than he already has, he has another 13 months to top it off.

Totally agree with Ira - before him we never had this problem, and I am conservative. It is a disgrace what he has left our county in the mess it is in. He took a paycut - after he got a payraise - he still made sure he was making more than he did last year. Can't wait to get Ed Day there - except he will have such a hard job of fixing the mess Vanderhoef has created.

I keep watching this video and listening to his words. So basically he won't leave unless someone offers him an incredible amount of money. Am I the only one who is offended by that statement?
