Rebuild is on a roll!!!

As 2012 winds down Rebuild Hi-Tor is gearing up. We and everyone in the county will assure that the workers there and the residents there have a facility to be proud of. www.rebuildhitor.org

Rebuild Hi-Tor is taking a strong hold in Rockland County and the amount of support is overwhelming!

Over the post Thanksgiving weekend Rebuild held tabling events in Pearl River at Shoprite, in West Nyack at the Palisades Center Mall and in Nanuet at Petsmart. The three locations netted over $4100.00 and over 100 bags of food for the Hi-Tor residents.

Remember, Hi-Tor is the ONLY animal shelter in Rockland County.  If any resident brings an animal to Hi-Tor they are obligated to accept that animal and try to find a home for it.  The amount of homeless animals is on the increase.  Hi-Tor has 35 dog kennels and on any given day you can find 50-60 dogs at the shelter.   The cattery is also overloaded.  Our new facility to be is designed for 100 kennels.

The holidays always see a lot of adoptions and the days after the holidays always see people bringing pets back to the shelter.  Please, before you gift an animal to someone be it your own family or someone else make sure it is a match.   The stress animals go through when they are happy in a home to confused when they are left in a cage is often very traumatic for them.

Dining events are starting to fill up in January and we will keep you posted on the ones happening as they are coming up but look for well known establishments like Harbourside in West Nyack on Jan 15, Rocco's in New City on Jan. 16, Grande Centrale in Congers on Jan 23 and many more that are solidifying their dates as this is being written.

December events start with Dec 1 at The Turn in Suffern and The Dog House in Nanuet from Dec 2-8, Cinco de Mayo in Valley Cottage on Dec 5 and D's Bagel's & Brunch in Congers on Dec 13.

All these business's will be donating portions of the day's receipts to Rebuild Hi-Tor.

Of course we want everyone to focus on the animals that are up for adoption so a couple are included here for you to check out.   10 year old Seven is so confused at no longer being in a nice warm home and in a cage with all that racket going on. She's a very friendly mushy cat that would love someone to death and wants nothing more than to be loved.   Jinxie is a face you cannot look away from .  This beautiful Lab mix is starving for affection and ready to deliver as much as they get,

Hi-Tor strives to do the best that is possible for its residents.  We want Hi-Tor to be able to do it without worrying day to day if the heat will fail, whether the air conditioning will fail or whether the roof will leak.  Rebuild will have a new facility in place and it will be done by the hands of the citizens of Rockland County.  The people are coming together.  We are so pleased at the response that this project is receiving from all corners of the county.

We will be showing up at more and more locations each weekend.  We will be partnering with more and more business' who want to help.  This is a true grass roots effort and everyone in Rockland County should be proud.   You will make this work!

"This guy just wants to love someone to death."
Hello??? First of all, the dog is a spayed female and how about you give the dog's name which happens to be Jinxie. I don't know how wonderful the idea of loving someone to "death" is, you could certainly give a better description than that.
stephany November 29, 2012 at 05:18 pm
jinxie is also a spayed pitbull terrier not a lab mix unless that is how they choose to describe her. there is a large population of pitbulls at hi-tor
http://www.hitoranimalshelter.org/BestFriend.html they are good dogs with a bad reputation due to owners not raising them right, but that does little to get them adopted. people dropping off pitbulls should pay more for the privilege. it is less likely that the owners can't afford food for the dog than they just don't want it or can't give it away as the reason for dropping it on hi-tor. charge more and get money for food for 1yr when you can. get a good pitt bull andyou won't be sorry http://www.realpitbull.com/lifewithpitbulls.html given the very large percentage of this breed[including mixes] at hi-tor,probaby because they don't move, they should educate the public more and maybe have a pittbull awareness day or something.

You can get on the radio and thank Ed Day and Alden Wolfe and other legislators for taking the time to review Hi-Tor after they were asking for additional funding. I suppose HT didn't think that a review of the center would be done and then a 650K wish list would be put into a book instead of giving them one extra dime. Sure the place is old but you just can't pile animals on top of animals and then cry about it. There was a 500K fund for the mission of acquiring a new "state of the art facility". Where did that money go? No one wants to answer that question.

Good points Stephany.

Okay, so now an ED that wrote grants is gone, how much money and time is left to run the place?

Aerial of United Water's proposed water treatment plant
Tom Nimick June 11, 2013 at 09:23 pm
Mr. Pointing says that an issues conference is unusual. The unusual step is called for because thisRead More project is highly unusual; it is unprecedented. This French-owned water company wants to implement its pet technology at our expense - it makes sense for the company because the project makes lots of money. There is information available that calls into question the "definitive" studies carried out by the water company. Of course they found that their technology was the best option - what a surprise! They have not made the case that they carried out a disinterested examination of the issues in the public interest. Yes there are still issues. Also, stop threatening us with increased costs from delay. First, it does not make sense and second, you are trying to bully us into accepting your proposal. That is one more sign that something is wrong in your proposal.
John Taggart June 13, 2013 at 08:08 am
An issues conference will be a wast of time and money. So many ' issues ' have been pulled out ofRead More thin air. The people who organized against the plant will just keep saying the same thing. No amount of info will be enough, no answer will be accepted. The issues conference will be a circus of endless questions, ideas, and demands. Haverstraw bay reclassified as drinking water will better protect it, provide an endless supply of water and finally help end the stereotype of the Hudson being polluted Recommend

There were no open meetings. I attended the April meeting and Mr. Lettre was directed by the TownRead More Board to return with more precise estimates and to include options for other upgrades. I have attended every meeting of the Town Board since that time and Mr. Lettre never returned in an open meeting. Mr. Borelli indicated that Mr. Lettre had addressed his concerns directly and privately. According to the Open Meetings Law, the deliberations of the Town Board are to be open and visible to the public. Private individual meetings or communications with members of the Town Board so as to avoid open deliberations flouts the intent of the Open Meetings Law. Mr. Gromack's statement of other meetings is inaccurate and, since it was specifically in response to a question about open meetings, dishonest. Mr. Borelli, shame on you for accepting a private communication and not standing by your guidance to Mr. Lettre that he was to come back to an open meeting of the Town Board.

Thanks for sharing, Grace! Your thoughts on their noise?
Grace Anthony Zemsky June 10, 2013 at 09:00 am
The traffic from the nearby Palisades Parkway is more of a noise nuisance than the cicada chorus.Read More (We have triple-paned windows because of it.) There is something almost musical about the hum of the cicadas. Of course, it may bother me more if I lived in the "affected area" and heard it constantly. Upon entering this nearby neighborhood, the sound crescendos. And yet, it can't be heard a couple of streets away. The drone of locusts is more bothersome than these 17 year cicadas.
