Meals on Wheels Programs & Services of Rockland Offers Meals for Breast Cancer Patients

Meal on Wheels shares its participation in a pilot program that is providing support to those battling breast cancer in Rockland.

Community Cares is proud to welcome its first guest blogger, Meals on Wheels Programs & Services of Rockland. The organization is taking part in a wonderful pilot program that is supporting neighbors battling breast cancer. A big thank you for sharing this story with us!

Meals on Wheels Programs & Services of Rockland is participating in a county wide pilot program. Thanks to the Magnolia Meals at Home™ program many of our neighbors living with breast cancer are now able to receive up to six monthly home deliveries of up to seven meals designed to help meet their nutritional needs. In addition, family members may also receive up to 10 meals as well. There are no income requirements but there is an application process.

"After a long day of chemotherapy and doctor appointments, patients on the program will not have to worry about making a healthy dinner. This will help ease the stress of daily living and allow patients to enjoy more time with their families," explains Ilsa Svoboda, Director of Social Work Services.

Magnolia Meals at Home is a partnership between Eisai, a Japanese pharmaceutical company with U.S. headquarters in Woodcliff Lake, N.J., and two national cancer organizations, CancerCare and Cancer Support Community. Eisai makes drugs to treat breast cancer, but its program does not require use of those medications.
