Rockland Community Foundation Provides Grant Support for Special Education Homework Club

The Rockland Community Foundation is pleased to announce that it has presented a $1,120 grant to the Clarkstown Family Resource Center in support of its Special Education Homework Club. The program supports special education students in grades 2-5 in New City and Woodglen Elementary Schools.

"The Clarkstown Family Resource Center thanks the Rockland Community Foundation for its generous grant," said Executive Director Lisa Cohen, who accepted the grant on behalf of the organization. "These funds will enable us to sustain our after school Special Education Homework Club which provides much needed homework assistance in a small group setting with special education teachers. These teachers use their specially trained skills to help the students understand what they need to do and redirect them when necessary. The students become confident in their abilities, develop higher self esteem, and have more quality time at home after school."

"We are pleased to support programs such as this," said Foundation President Patrick Byrne. "They go far in empowering students with special needs by reinforcing essential learning skills outside the classroom setting. They also serve to foster positive interactions between parents and their children by reducing stress at home."

Community foundations put philanthropy within reach, offering the ability to establish funds that will continue to give for years to come, with tax benefits that donors can take advantage of now. Most importantly, the funds stay in the community, which means donors will see the impact of their contributions in the place they call home.
