Addressing the financial crisis of the county is Legislator Wieder’s top priority – as a legislator and as majority leader. “I will continue to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to ensure that mechanisms are in place to pay off our entire deficit and prevent future deficits,” he said. “Rockland’s deficit is its greatest threat to progress in the 21st century, and we must work to make it part of our history, not our present.”

In his acceptance speech at the reorganization meeting, Legislator Wieder did not shy away from discussing the issue of unity among Rockland residents. Noting the many issues that divide Rocklanders, Wieder recognized that residents “are filled with angst and uncertainty,” and called the lack of unity “a real crisis.” However, he challenged his colleagues and residents to work together on all fronts for the success of all Rockland residents, and stated, “Unity is the nucleus of our prosperity.”

Legislator Wieder appointed Legislator Toney Earl to serve as Deputy Majority Leader. Legislator Wieder also serves on the Rules committee, as well as the Multi-Services, Economic Development, and Government Operations committees.
