Legislator Wieder Issues Statement on Anti-Irish Materials

New City, NY (March 5, 2014) - Today I support my colleague, Legislator Pat Moroney, and the entire Irish-American community, in denouncing the anti-Irish materials being sold at the Palisades Center and elsewhere. As in the past, I continue to support a call to end the sale of such materials everywhere in Rockland County. Our county is no place for such offensive ideas to be spread.

There is no room in this community or in this country to ridicule or stereotype any group. It is unfortunate that we must once again have a conversation about ending the sale of anti-Irish clothing, however it gives us an opportunity to raise awareness of the negative impact that stereotypes can have on communities.

When we talk about tackling anti-Irish stereotypes, we must also talk about tackling other stereotypes against people from all races, backgrounds, and religions. By continuing to have such dialogues we can put an end to all forms of hate and make our community a better place for all to live.
