Legislators Wieder & Schoenberger Break Ground on Pascack Brook Project

New City, NY (August 15, 2013) – Rockland County Legislators Aron Wieder & Ilan Schoenberger led a groundbreaking ceremony that was well-attended by residents and officials, and marked the beginning of a construction project that will permanently alleviate chronic flooding in the area of the Pascack Brook in Spring Valley. The ceremony took place at the intersection of Francis Place and Stonehouse Drive, an area of major flooding for decades that has frequently displaced residents.

Ramapo and Spring Valley officials, as well as Legislators Wieder, Schoenberger, and Toney Earl attended the ceremony. Also in attendance were staffers involved in designing this project as well as those who will execute it, including the engineering firm of Bergmann Associates, the contractor Metra Industries, and KS Engineers, the firm that will be supervising the project. Vince Altieri, the Director of the Drainage Agency, was also in attendance.

“After well over a decade of working on this project, I am proud to stand here to mark the beginning of a new era in Rockland,” said Legislator Schoenberger stated. “This is an era in which Rockland County will work together with others to fix our roads and our infrastructure, and all the challenges our county faces.”

The groundbreaking represented the culmination of years of efforts and collaboration between the Town of Ramapo, the County of Rockland, the Village of Spring Valley, and state and federal agencies. It is expected that the project will take approximately two years to complete.
