Statement from Chairwoman Cornell on Approval of Federal Loan for TZB Construction

Harriet Cornell, Chairwoman of the Rockland County Legislature, applauded the announcement of the approved $1.6 billion TIFIA loan (Transportation Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act) for the Tappan Zee replacement bridge.

"Governor Cuomo has made this project a signature issue, and the federal government recognized its significance by granting the largest TIFIA loan in history," she said.

Cornell, who has worked on Tappan Zee bridge issues for almost 15 years, said that the new bridge is very important for the nation's transportation network.

"This bridge will provide economic development, thousands of jobs during construction, access to the entire Northeast—and will be a magnificent sight spanning the Hudson River. This is wonderful news."
