Wolfe Supports NY Environmental Clean Up and Green Jobs

The Rockland County Legislature passed two resolutions sponsored by Chairman Alden H. Wolfe in support of strengthening the state’s green economy. The first resolution backs a proposed state law (A.8121; S.5925) that would enact the Clean Water/Clean Air/Green Jobs Act of 2014. The law would provide a $5 billion dollar bond to be approved by voters on Election Day, November 2014. The law would improve air and water quality while creating manufacturing and construction jobs.  Wolfe said, “This law would improve our air and water quality while creating a significant number of good jobs for New Yorkers.”   He added, “A host of career opportunities will open up for young people. It’s these kinds of jobs that stop the exodus of young people from our communities. An added benefit of this legislation is that it would help finance flood control projects, protection of habitats, open space, and farmland.”

Wolfe’s second resolution affirms the County’s willingness to partner with Governor Andrew Cuomo to achieve his goals to create green jobs. Mr. Wolfe urged the Governor to move aggressively with an economic development plan that would reduce greenhouse gas emissions and develop renewal energy sources, as these actions will boost the State’s economy by creating long-term green jobs. “Good environmental policy is good for economic development,” said Mr. Wolfe, adding, “I want Governor Cuomo to know that like the State, Rockland is eager to support a green economy and the jobs that come with that.”
