Beach Boys Provident Bank Park Summer Concert Series

The best part of the Beach Boys concert on Wednesday evening, August 14th, 2013 at Provident Bank Park in Pomona, New York?

A full stadium hissing and booing Ramapo Town Supervisor Christopher St. Lawrence as he attempted to welcome the crowd to the event. The stunned look on Mr. St. Lawrence’s face was hilarious!!!

One of the worst parts was the annoying lack of production for the “Jumbotron” big screen relay.  I paid good money my family and I to watch some idiot poorly practice directing.  Because the stage is a bit far, the video is essential to see any detail, but this was a horror show.  The camera shots of the band members were confusing because they failed to “follow the action” for instance, if the guitar player has a guitar solo, then don’t be showing the singer standing silent.  And when the singer is singing, please don’t stay on the keyboard player, unless of course that’s the person singing lead. The camera work was typically poorly framed, shaky and occasionally out of focus. They even tried to creatively layer live shots of the band with animations.  Now, this can work and look great but the animation must fill the screen, which this did not.  It was a 4x3 background animation layered behind the 16x9 live shot and that is simply wrong.  The video production work was so bad that my eyes are still bleeding!

The Beach Boys need to bring back Brian Wilson or NOT tour as The Beach Boys.  Yes, the band sounded tight but it sorely lacked Brian Wilson's presence and in retrospect, I would definitely NOT have spent two-hundred-plus dollars on tickets, food and parking (yes, parking- remember, Mr. St. Lawrence has a big bond to pay back) to see the present band’s lineup.

Oh, for those of you living in Ramapo, one has to wonder what went through Mr. St. Lawrence's head when the band played "Be True To Your School" with all he has allowed happen to the Ramapo School District.  Mr. St. Lawrence needs to heed the bands lyrical advice and be true to the schools in his own backyard.
