UPDATED: Bus Problem On Seventh Grade Field Trip

One coach bus got a flat tire as Clarkstown students were returning home.

Clarkstown School District Superintendent Meg Keller-Cogan said the one of the contracted coach buses got a flat tire during a field trip on Monday. The coach buses were returning with Felix Festa Middle School seventh graders from the Liberty Science Center in Jersey City when the incident occurred on the New Jersey Turnpike.

Keller-Cogan said no one was hurt and the bus was able to pull safely over to the shoulder. The replacement coach bus was expected to reach the students by 3:50 p.m. and return to the school by 5 p.m. All the students on the disabled coach bus called their parents to advise them of the delay and Keller-Cogan notified board of education members by email.

Numerous teachers and the school principal stayed with the students on the disabled bus. Students were able to call their parents again when the bus was approaching the school

Keller-Cogan said parents were asked to pick up their children at the middle school if possible. The school district did provide late buses for students needing a ride home.
