Clarkstown School Board Candidates’ Second Opportunity To Speak About The Issues

2012 PTA Council Candidates Forum takes place tonight

 

The candidates running for the three Clarkstown School Board seats up for election get another opportunity to share their ideas with the public at tonight’s “2012 PTA Council Candidates Forum” night sponsored by the Clarkstown Council of PTAs.  The program begins at 7 p.m. at Felix Festa Middle School in West Nyack and is scheduled to end at 9:15 p.m.  The school board election and 2012-2013 school budget vote is May 15.

Joan Braunfotel, president of the PTA Council, provided the agenda for the evening. She will welcome everyone at 7 p.m. and serve as the forum moderator. The program will begin with each candidate giving an opening statement at approximately 7:10 p.m. Candidates are limited to one minute each for their remarks.

At approximately 7:15 p.m., questions submitted by the PTAs throughout the district will be asked of the candidates. Answers will be limited to 90 seconds. Questions will cover several categories: 

  • Ethics and Code of Conduct for Board Of Education members
  • School Budget
  • Policy
  • Open Meetings Law and Transparency
  • Role of A School Board Member
  • Curriculum
  • Parent Involvement

At approximately 8:15 p.m. questions from the audience will be asked. Candidate responses will be limited to approximately 90 seconds.

For their closing statements scheduled for 9:15 p.m., candidates will be limited to two minutes each. However, Braunfotel notes if there is a large community showing for the program, the timing may be adjusted. 

All six candidates were invited to participate in the forum. As of Sunday evening, four candidates had responded they were attending: , and . The first forum was sponsored by the Clarkstown Taxpayers and was held at the Nanuet Library on Thursday, April 26.
