Clarkstown School Board Postpones Setting Tax Rate

The Clarkstown Central School District Board of Education was scheduled to set the new tax rate at tonight’s meeting but that has been postponed. The reason for the delay and a new date were not immediately available when the announcement was made on Wednesday afternoon. As a result of the school district and town of Clarkstown’s $20 million tax certiorari and property tax reduction settlement with the Palisades Center on July 29, the district will be receiving several million dollars less in revenue.

The agenda for the 8 p.m. meeting includes a vote to appoint Dr. Joan Taylor as interim principal of Lakeview Elementary High School. The contract before the board sets her daily pay at $545 from August 9, 2013 through the end of the 2013-2014 school year. She will replace Michelle Martoni whose August 1st resignation was announced at the July 2nd meeting.

Other items include discussion of a board retreat and a vote to hire the New York State School Boards Association to rewrite and update the school board’s policies.
