Clarkstown School Budget Vote And Trustee Election

Clarkstown School District voters go to the polls Tuesday to cast ballots on the proposed 2013-2014 budget of  $195,142,980.  The proposed tax levy would increase 2.9 percent over the current tax levy. Incumbent School Board Trustees Diane Hoeneveld and Robert Carlucci are seeking re-election and running unopposed.

The district's four poll locations remain the same as last year. They are not affected by the  Board of Elections change of polling locations for the September general primary and November general election.

The school district polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. They are: District 1 – Clarkstown North High School, District 2 – Congers Elementary School, District 3 – Link Elementary School and District 4 – West Nyack Elementary School. Anyone with questions, should call the School District Clerk's Office at 845-639-6455.

There are no changes to staff or programs under the proposed spending plan. The proposed budget would use approximately $11 to $12 million from district reserve funds to close the gap between revenues and expenses. It includes about $600,000 for security and safety projects and $1 million would come from reserve funds to begin replacing school building roofs.

Carlucci is completing his first three-year term. Hoeneveld, presently the board vice president, is finishing her third three-year term. Hoeneveld is a West Nyack resident and Carlucci lives in New City. Hoeneveld is a former longtime Strawtown Elementary School teacher and Carlucci owns an insurance agency in New City and founded the Condors Swim Club. For more information on the budget, go here.

The school board will meet Tuesday night to get the unofficial results of the vote after the polls close at 9 p.m.
