The snow started falling early Monday in Rockland County, with local school districts responding by closing early.
The Clarkstown district notified parents and guardians around 9 a.m. of its decision. All after school activities, including the JCCY and the YMCA are cancelled. At 10:30 a.m. North and South high schools will dismiss. At 11 a.m. the following elementary schools will dismiss: Congers, Laurel Plains, Link, New City, Strawtown and Birchwood. At 11:30 these elementary schools will be dismissed: Bardonia, Lakewood, Little Tor, West Nyack and Woodglen. At 12 p.m. Felix Festa Middle School will be dismissed.
The National Weather Service is calling for a mix of snow, freezing rain and sleet from the morning through 3 p.m. with an accumulation of less than an inch of snow and "little or no ice."
Other Rockland school districts including Nanuet, Nyack, South Orangetown and Pearl River have made similar announcements.
