Clarkstown South Competes In First Round Of Quiz Show

Clarkstown South students will face their counterparts from Roosevelt High School in "The Challenge" quiz show on Dec. 12.

 

Clarkstown South High School students will compete in the first round of MSG Varsity's quiz show, The Challenge.  The Clarkstown South team members are Joe Mileo, Alex Sadler, who serves as captain, Susan Zollinger and Dan Weiner. Liz Kantor and Emma Fridley are alternates and Chris Bachman is their academic advisor.  

The Clarkstown South team will challenge their counterparts from Roosevelt High School in the 2012-2103 first round match-up on Wednesday, December 12 at 6:30 p.m. on Cablevision’s Optimum, Channel 14.

Clarkstown South will compete against 31 other schools from Westchester and the Lower Hudson Valley during the Regional Rounds as they look to qualify for the Tri-State Championship Playoffs.

Jared Cotter, a semi-finalist from American Idol, serves as host of “The Challenge” as well as “MSG Varsity’s Talent Show.”  Cotter will act as moderator, testing competing teams on their knowledge of history, arts and literature, current events, math, and science in front of a live studio audience.

The Challenge” includes 192 high schools from the entire tri-state area — Long Island (with Nassau and Suffolk as two distinct regions), the Bronx, Brooklyn, Westchester/Lower Hudson Valley, New Jersey and Connecticut.  A new match-up can been seen every Sunday through Friday at 6:30 pm, on MSG Varsity, Cablevision’s Optimum Channel 14. 

Participating schools advance through a series of elimination rounds with one school in each region being crowned regional champion and winning $2,500 for their school. The winning teams from each region advance to “The Challenge” Championship where they square off in a Tri-State Showdown. The school awarded the title of Tri-State Champion will receive $10,000 in prize money and each student participating in the final “Challenge” Championship game will receive $500.

MSG Varsity is a multi-platform suite of services comprised of: an Emmy award-winning 24/7 HD television network, an online destination and interactive service, all dedicated to high school sports, academics and activities happening throughout the tri-state area.  Content for these services includes MSG Varsity’s professionally produced programming as well as material created by the high schools.
