Donations and Tax Certs On School Board Agenda

When the Clarkstown Board of Education meets tonight at 8 p.m., its members will vote on accepting a variety of donations for elementary schools. There will also be votes on approving several tax certiorari settlements with commercial and residential property owners amounting to more than $83,000.

The donations include a bench from the Little Tor Elementary graduating class of 2013 for the playground near the basketball court valued at $400.  A $500 cash donation was made in memory of West Nyack Elementary librarian Florence K. O’Brien for purchases for the school library.

New City Elementary’s PTA provided 25 Kindles with covers for the fifth grade classes valued at $2,500 and 300 pairs of sunglasses for the band valued at $325. The PTA also donated a new school banner costing $142 and five new glass covered bulletin boards valued at $2,594.

The board will vote on two tax cert settlements with commercial property owners. COSCIA of New City, which appealed its tax assessments for 2009, 2010 and 2012, would receive a refund of $17,950. RHYTIDFREE Corp. of New City, which appealed its property tax assessments for 2009 through 2012, would receive a repayment of $33,661.  

Almost 60 residential property owners from New City, Bardonia, West Nyack, Congers and Nanuet would receive refunds for their 2012 assessments in amounts ranging from $116 to $2,563 for a total of $32,208.
