UPDATE: Local Authors Present At 10th Annual “Sticky Notes” Conference

Clarkstown North hosts writing workshop for 100 high school students on Friday


Three published authors with local connections will speak at writing workshops attended by 100 area high school students on Friday at Clarkstown North High School. The 10th annual “Sticky Notes” Conference features writers Adam Rubin, Remy Maisel and Shari Maurer. The program includes a series of writing workshops and discussions led by authors, students and teachers. 

Fifty students from North will be joined by another 50 students from Clarkstown South, Pearl River, Nyack, Ramapo and Cornwall high schools for the four-hour program. The published authors, all graduates of Clarkstown North, will each run three 45-minute workshops.

Maurer, a New City resident, is author of the novel Change of Heart will lead a workshop entitled "It All Starts With Strong Characters." Maisel, a Huffington Post blogger, will present "NEWSworthY."  Rubin, a New York Times best selling author of Dragons Love Tacos and the Those Darn Squirrels trilogy will teach the "How to Strangle a Penguin" workshop. Rubin graduated 10 years ago and Maisel graduated two years ago.

The program organized by Karen Czajkowski, the chair of the North’s English Department, includes five other workshops run by students. The morning program breaks for lunch and then concludes with an open microphone session during which students will read samples of their writing some of which will be created at the workshops.
