New City Rotary and Rockland Independent Living Center Award Clarkstown Students with Scholarships

New City Rotary Club and Rockland Independent Living Center give back to the community through scholarship programs to help students and the disabled.

The New City Rotary Club awarded eight students with $1,000 scholarships, The Journal News reports. The Felix Festa Scholarship Award was named for former Clarkstown Superintendent and New City Rotary Club charter member Felix Festa, and is given to students who demonstrate excellence academically and in the area of community service.  The scholarships recipients are:

• Clarkstown North High School

  • Lauren Ni Buachalla
  • Molly Ludlow
  • Samantha Fuller
  • Mitchell Adams 
  • Crystal Godfrey

• Clarkstown South High School

In addition to the above scholarships given out by the New City Rotary Club, another local organization is giving back to the area's disabled community.

Rockland disabled residents will now have access to an expanded and fully updated computer learning center thanks to nonprofit Rockland Independent Living Center. Specialized learning software include number of programs designed to help improve reading ability, hardware that is essential for many people with visual impairments, screen magnification software, a Sorenson VRS videophone for deaf and hard-of-hearing consumers among many others.
