Clarkstown South Heads to State Volleyball Semis
Clarkstown South will play for the NYSPHSAA Class AA girls volleyball championship this weekend at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
The semifinals begin 3 p.m. Saturday in a pool play format with the four remaining teams -- Clarkstown South, Our Lady Mercy, Baldwinsville and Ward Melville. Each team will play the other three once. Clarkstown South opens with Our Lady Mercy at 3 p.m. on Court Two.
The Class AA state championship match will be played 2 p.m. Sunday.
State Swimming and Diving Championships
Nyack's Nicole Ciavarella will represent Rockland County's best shot at a title at the 2012 NYSPHSAA state swimming and diving championships today and Saturday at Ithaca College.
Ciavarella's Section 1 record time of 1:04.32 in the 100-yard breaststroke is the second-best qualifying time in the event behind Sewanhaka's Olivia Chen's 1:03.99. Ciavarella will also compete in the 200 IM, where she has the 17th-best time (2:10.41).
The swimming preliminaries begin at 11 a.m. today, with the diving finals at 3 p.m. The swimming championship races begin 1:15 p.m. Saturday.

Section 1 Football All-Star Game
Section 1 may have cancelled all non-playoff post-season games after Hurricane Sandy, but the Section 1 Senior Bowl All-Star game is on for 1 p.m. Sunday at Mahopac.
