The Rockland Community College (RCC) Foundation Board welcomes four new Rockland residents. They are: Walter Goldman of Pomona, Clarke Osborn of Suffern, John Piccininni of Suffern and John Wickes of Airmont.
Walter Goldman is president of Goldkap Consulting Group of Suffern. He is passionate about working with the Foundation Board and helping RCC, as a result of his daughter’s positive experience in the RCC Honors Program. Goldman volunteers his services in the community, helping businesses succeed through organizations such as SCORE. His consulting work is geared towards helping organizations and businesses lower operational expenses by negotiating with their current vendors to reduce costs.
Clarke Osborn is a Class of ’92 graduate and chief of police, in the Village of Suffern. Chief Osborn is also president of the Rockland County Police Chief’s Association, and a trustee of the Ramapo Central School District. He promotes RCC’s Criminal Justice program while also teaching courses as adjunct faculty. Osborn was Suffern’s first DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) officer, and continues to spearhead the annual DARE Toy Drive. He also coaches recreational lacrosse and hockey.
John Piccininni is president of Piccininni Properties Corp. in Suffern. He joined the Foundation Board to help raise funds for student scholarships. He speaks about, “One of our employees [who] went to RCC at night, paying the entire cost himself. He is now attending a four-year school studying architecture, while still working for us and supporting a family. Other RCC students I’ve met are also working full-time and paying their own tuition. The people who graduate RCC are in an Ivy League of their own.”
John Wickes owns Wickes Arborists of Spring Valley and has been RCC’s arborist. This includes repairing storm-damaged trees, pest management and consultation with RCC staff to ensure the preservation of the College’s "green assets," such as trees, shrubs and turf. Known for his service to the community, Wickes has received several awards, including Volunteer of the Year from the Reach Foundation of Rockland County, and a Service Above Self Award from the Suffern Rotary.
Since its inception in 1982, the RCC Foundation has awarded more than $3 million in scholarships to students for scholastic excellence and/or financial need. Last year, the Foundation awarded more than $300,000 in scholarships and student support. The Foundation also assists and enhances the academic programs of the College.
